3/4 cup butter
3 cups sifted cake flour
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups ice water
3 squares chocolate, melted (or 1/2 cup cocoa)

1 cup nuts, chopped
4 Tbsp butter.
3-4 cups confectioner's sugar
6 Tbsp cream
2 Tbsp vanilla
pinch of salt

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla with mixer. Add eggs, beating until light and fluffy. Blend in chocolate. Stir together the dry ingredients and add alternately with water to chocolate mixture. Pour batter into three 8-inch pans, which have been lined with waxed paper. Bake at 350 for 30 - 35 minutes. Cool. Put layers together with filling and frost with fudge frosting.

Toast nuts in butter. Stir constantly for three minutes. Add confectioner's sugar, cream, vanilla, and salt. Can add more confectioner's sugar until desired spreading consistency is reached.
