6 eggs -separated
1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups sugar
2 cups blackberry jam
4 cups flour
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg yolks, margarine or butter and sugar until fluffy. Add buttermilk and blackberry jam, mix well.
Add dry ingredients and beat until smooth. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry, and fold into cake batter.
Grease and flour 4 cake pans. Pour equal amounts of cake batter into each pan. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until done. Ice with the following recipe:

Mother made this for Christmas every year. She used to put the cake on top of an old wardrobe closet so Edwin, Waylon, Tommy, and Rodney couldn't get it. Note from Avanelle: I remember Mother making two at Thanksgiving and saving one for Christmas.
