1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 Tbsp. water
2 1/2 cups of oats

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening with the sugars. Add the other ingredients to the shortening, except for the oats. Beat until well mixed. Fold in the oats. Spoon onto greased and floured cookie sheets. Bake at 350 .

These cookies will spread out and be very flat and crisp. Mom would have these waiting for us when we got home from school. But the recipe came to her from our neighbor Esther.
