Ingredients:
approx. 6 c. fresh strawberries, sliced
1/2 c. sugar, divided
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. (1 cube) butter
1 egg, beaten
2/3 c. milk
1 c. heavy whipping cream, sweetened & whipped

Directions:
Directions:
In a small bowl stir together the strawberries and 1/4 c. sugar. Set aside. Stir together the remaining sugar, flour and baking powder. With a pastry blender, or two forks, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine the egg and milk. Add to flour mixture. Stir just to moisten. Drop the dough into 6-8 mounds on an ungreased baking sheet. Flatten each mound with the back of a spoon until approx. 3/4 to 1" thick. Bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes, or until golden. To serve, top each shortcake with strawberries and whipped cream. Or, you can cut the shortcakes in half lengthwise and spoon the strawberries and whipped cream between the two shortcake layers.
