3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add unbeaten eggs one at a time; beat well. Add vanilla to milk. Alternate milk and flour which has been sifted with salt, soda, and cocoa. Begin and end with flour. Add boiling water all at once and stir. Bake in 3 - 8 " layers or 9 x 12 sheet pan. Bake at 350, sheet cake for 40 minutes, layers about 30 minutes
