1 pkg. Baker's German Sweet Chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites

Preheat oven to 350. Melt chocolate in 1/2 c. boiling water. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Add chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, salt, and soda. Add to chocolate mixture, along with buttermilk, and beat well. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into batter. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8 or 9 inch round cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and frost with coconut pecan frosting.
