3/4 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 TBSP Shortening
3/4 c. boiling water
2 eggs beaten with
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350

Place first 6 ingredients in bowl, let stand 20 min.
Beat eggs and vanilla together.
Add sugar and flour to above mixture.
Pour into loaf pan and bake 45-60 min, checking until toothpick comes out clean.
