1 package (18 1/2 oz) German chocolate cake mix
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup plus 1/2 cup evaporated milk, divided
3/4 cup butter, melted
60 vanilla carmels, unwrapped ( 1 -14 oz. package)
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

1- In a large mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, pecans, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and melted butter. Mix well on medium speed. Press half of the batter into a greased 9" x 13" pan. Bake in preheated oven 350 F for 8 minutes.
2- Have ready the following mixture to pour over the baked layer. In the heavy sauce pan (or double boiler over simmering water) melt carmels with the remaining 1/2 cup of evaporated milk. When the carmels are melted and blended, then pour mixture over the baked chocolate layer.
3- Cover with chocolate chips. Pour remaining batter over the chips.
4- Return cake to oven and continue to bake for 18 minutes. Let cool before cutting into squares. Serve with ice cream.
