1 lb. pkg. dates
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Put dates in a pan with 1 cup of water, and simmer. Mix remaining ingredients like a pie crust. Pat 3/4 of the dough into a pan. Spread with dates, then sprinkle on the rest of the dough. Bake until brown. Cut into squares.
