2 C. flour
1 1/2 C. (3 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
1 1/2 C.brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 C. quick oat meal
1 tsp. baking soda
12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate bits
1 cup walnuts or pecans
14 oz. pkg. light-colored caramels
1/4 c. evaporated milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, brown sugar, salt, vanilla, oats, butter, & soda. Press half the mixture on bottom of a buttered 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate bits and nuts. Mix caramels with milk and melt in microwave. Pour caramel over chocolate and nuts. Crumble remaining crust mixture over top. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
Cool. Cut into small bars. Makes 3 dozen. They freeze well.
