1 1/2c. Flour
1c. Sugar
3/4c. Quick Cooking Oats
1tsp. Baking Powder
1tsp. Ground Ginger
1/4tsp. Ground Cloves
1/2c. Shortening - Crisco
1/4 c. Molasses
1 Egg Slightly Beaten
1tsp. Vanilla
Sugar for rolling cookies in
1/4tsp. Salt

Preheat oven to 375 Combine 1/4tsp. salt with flour, sugar, oats, baking powder, ginger and cloves in a large mixer bowl. Add shortening, molasses and egg and mix all ingredients on low speed until blended and increase speed to moderate-high and beat. Chill dough for 15 minutes. Form 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar and place on a greased cookie pan; place 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the pan for a few minutes before removing and cool on a rack.
