1 cup shortening
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar, egg, and flavorings. Blend flour. Mix thoroughly. Divide in half and color one half red. Refrigerate. After cold, take small amount of each color, roll out an roll together and shape like candy cane. Bake at 375 for 110 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar mixed with finely crushed peppermint sticks or candy canes after removing from oven.
