1 cup potato
1 cup scalded milk
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 packages yeast
2 teaspoons salt
6 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water. Add salt to potato water. Cream shortening and sugar. Add alternately: flour, potato water, milk and yeast water until a stiff dough. Let rise until double in size. Knead well. Roll to 1/4 inch thick. Cut as you would for dumplings. Dip each piece in melted butter. Drop helter-skelter into tube pan or ring mold. Let rise until double in size.

Bake at for 35 minutes. Turn upside down on dinner plate. Serve hot.

Variation #1: After dipping in butter, dip in cinnamon sugar and prepare as above.

Variation #2:.Add cinnamon to dough and roll to 1/4-inch thick and cut with a dough nut cutter. Let rise and fry in deep fat. Glaze with powdered sugar.
