3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
2-1/4 c. sifted all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar, molasses, and egg until fluffy; sift together dry ingredients. Stir into shortening mixture. Form into small l" balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place 2" apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees about 8-l0 minutes. Cool slightly before removing to cookie rack.
