2 1/4 cup shortening
4 1/2 cup sugar
4 1/2 tsp. vanilla to above mixture
6 3/4 cups flour
3 cups skim milk
15 stiffly beaten egg whites

6 unbeaten egg white
4 1/2 cups sugar
6 tsps. light corn syrup
1 cup cold water
3 dashes salt
3 tsps. vanilla flavoring


Cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy (approximately 10 minutes at medium speed). Add vanilla, flour, milk, eggs to creamed mixture (alternately), beginning and ending with flour. Beat after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Bake at 375 for 18 to 20 minutes.

Icing: Place above ingredients in double boiler and beat for 1 minute with electric beater to
blend. Place over boiling water and cook until frosting forms stiff peaks. Add vanilla
and beat until of spreading consistency.
