6 medium straightneck squash, washed 1 medium onion, sliced 2 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp bacon grease 1/4 cup water
Add bacon grease to a large saucepan. Cut ends off squash and slice about 1/4" thick. Add all ingredients to pan. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove cover and cook additional 15 minutes to let water cook out.
