1 cup white sugar
3 Tbsps. butter
1 egg
1/2 cup cocoa - fill with boiling water to make one cup of liquid
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 cup boiling water

Cream sugar and butter; add beaten egg and cocoa liquid. Mix soda and boiling water. Add this and remaining ingredients, mix well, and pour into greased layer pan. Makes 1 layer.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350

Ice when cool with "Rich Butter Frosting"
Rich Butter Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups icing sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Add cocoa to make it chocolate. And beat till very very fluffy, if it is dry ADD MORE BUTTER! not milk.

This chocolate cake is half way between tasting home made but also half way to being moist like a cake mix. That is why it is so great. When placing it in the cake pans it is quite liquid so do not be concerned.
