2/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. grated orange peel (optional)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp. milk
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, peel, & vanilla. Add egg, beat till light & fluffy. Stir in milk. Sift dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Chill for 1 hour. Roll out on slightly floured surface about 1/8 inch and cut into shapes. Bake at 375 degrees on greased cookie sheet for 6-8 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from pan.

This recipe has been passed down from generation to generation in my family. My Aunt Sandra gave me this recipe. I have used this recipe for holidays and Christmas. They taste even better with butter icing.
