Pour all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil on medium heat, stirring occasionally, and then turn to low heat. Cook on low for a good while, stirring every once in a while to keep from sticking and burning. Drop a small tsp. of mixture into a cup of cold water to test for doneness. When it forms a definite ball in water, remove from stove and add a good tablespoon of butter. Beat when cool and drop from spoon.
