"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Scrambled Barf, by Carla McGuinness, is from Suwanee Ward Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
4 eggs 3 Tbsp sugar 1/8 tsp nutmeg 8 slices of bread cubed 6 Tbsp better 1 C milk 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Beat eggs, milk, sugar and spices together. Melt better in a 12" dutch oven. When hot, pour in the egg mixture and bread cubes. Cook with folding strokes until golden brown OR pour the mixture over the bread cubes in a greased 8" square pan and bake at 375º for about 40 minutes (in which case we dub it baked barf). Serve with your favorite syrup.
The kids named it this because it really doesn't look appetizing but it is delicious!
