"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for The Best Sugar Cookies, by Joyce McDuffie, is from The Brown Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
Cream butter and sugar together until very creamy. Add well beaten eggs and flavorings. Sift dry ingredients together and add to the butter and sugar mixture. Chill at least 1 hour. (Dough can be rolled out immediately but will take more flour.) Roll out dough and cut into desired shapes. Leave dough in refrigerator at all times. Bake at 450 degrees for 5 to 8 minutes.
Frosting: Sift powdered sugar. Add about 1/3 of it to melted butter. Mix thoroughly. Beat in egg white. Gradually add rest of sugar, vanilla and milk, adding only a little milk at a time.
