2 c. sugar
1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
6 egg yolks, lightly beaten*
3 c. milk*
1/2 c. unsalted butter*
1 tsp. vanilla extract
**To make vegan, also add 2 tbsp. cornstarch, and use vegan versions of these ingredients.

Directions:

In a large saucepan, combine sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt (and also cornstarch if making vegan version). Add egg yolks to sugar mixture; stir well. Add milk; stir well. Cook mixture over medium heat on stovetop until very thick, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
