1 c shortening (solid Crisco)
2 c sugar
3 eggs
1/4 c. milk
5 c flour
1 t. baking powder
1/4 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 t.+ vanilla

2 cans of vanilla frosting

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco and sugar.
Add eggs and cream again.
Add milk and vanilla.
Sift and add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Refrigerate several hours.

Roll out (they will thicken up as they bake).
Use cookie cutter to cut shapes you desire.
I always use hearts.

Bake on greased cookie sheet 5 to 8 minutes at 400 degrees--just until they begin to brown around the edges.

Cook the cookies and frost with canned frosting.
I usually add some red food coloring to one of the cans so I can have white and pink frosted cookies.
Sprinkles are also fun to put on as soon as you frost them.

A friend in Kansas City, Donetta Shaner, gave me this recipe 35 years ago, and I make Valentine cookies every February and send them to all our children and grandchildren.
