1 c. water 1 Tbsp. butter 1 1/2 c. chopped dates 1 c. brown sugar 1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. baking powder 2 c. flour 1 c. chopped nuts
Mix first four ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes and let cool.
Add egg to above mixture and beat thoroughly. Sift salt, baking powder, soda and flour. Add nuts to flour mixture. Combine wet ingredients with dry mixture and pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 225º 40-50 minutes.
