2 c. unbleached flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. cold butter (in pieces)
1/2 c. raisins
1 cup of buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar and stir with fork until well blended. Rub in the butter with your fingertips to distribute evenly. Stir in the raisins. Gradually add the buttermilk. The mixture should not feel dry. Turn mixture out on a very lightly floured board and knead lightly. Form mixture in a round loaf; smooth with the palm of your hand. Brush loaf with a little milk and make a cross in the center. Bake in a preheated 375 oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
