3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) margarine or butter
3 cups sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 pkg. (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 jar (7 oz) Jet-puffed marshmallow creme
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla

MICROWAVE: Lightly grease 13x9-in or 9 in. square pan. Microwave margarine in a 4 quart microwavable bowl or casserole on High 1 minute or until melted. Add sugar and milk, mix well. Microwave on High 5 min. or until mixture begins to boil, stirring after 3 minutes. Mix well, scraping bowl. Microwave on High 5 1/2 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes. Gradually stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients, mix well. Pour into prepared pan. Cool at room temperature, cut into squares. Makes 3 lbs.

TOP OF STOVE:
Prepare pan as directed. mix margarine, sugar, and milk in heavy 2 1/2 to 3 quart saucepan; bring to full rolling boil on medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 5 minutes on medium heat or until candy thermometer reaches 234 degrees, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from heat. Gradually stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients, mix well. Pour into prepared pan. Cool at room temperature, cut into squares. High Altitude: Decrease recommeded temperature(234 degrees) 2 degrees for every 1000 feet above sea level.
NOTE: Do not substitute sweetened condensed milk of the evaporated milk.
