1 7 oz. pkg dates, cut up
1 C boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 stick butter
1 C sugar
1 1/2 C sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C. chopped nuts

Add. boiling water and bk soda to dates, and allow to cool.
Cream butter with sugar
Add 1 beaten egg
Alternate adding liquid and dry ingredients: sifted flour, bk pd
and salt
Add vanilla and chopped nuts
Grease and flour 2 small loaf pans
350 45 min
