2 lb lean ground beef or sirloin
1 tbsp comino (cumin)
1 tbsp chile powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 small red onion, chopped
1-2 cans tomato sauce
˝ cup cilantro
10-12 corn tortillas

Directions:
Directions:
Sauté meat in a medium sized saucepan until lightly browned then add seasonings and tomato sauce. Add a little water, if necessary.
To cook tortillas: Pour 1 cup of cooking oil into deep pan and allow to get to reach a medium temperature, enough to fry without burning. Place tortilla flat in pan for 20 seconds, then grab one side with a pair of tongs so it folds over slightly, creating the taco shape.. Turn over to other side and cook until slightly browned and crispy in texture. Remove and drain on paper towels. (There are special taco-cooking utensils available in some specialty stores that will assure a more perfect shape, if you prefer.)
Fill fried taco shells with meat mixture and top with a blend of finely chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and cilantro. Add finely grated cheese and queso fresco. (sour cream is an alternative choice, if you prefer).
