2 c. cornmeal
3/4 t. salt
3/4 t. soda
1 t. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. bacon drippings or melted shortening
1 3/4 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift meal (I not longer sift), add sugar, salt, and soda. Sift together (I stir) Add milk and beat till smooth. Beat egg well and add to mixture. Add melted fat and mix. Fill hot greased iron skillet and bake in a hot over (450)m for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and done. Serve hot with lots of butter.
