1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 to 6 C. chopped nuts

Directions:
Take 2 cups sugar and slowly melt in heavy skillet( so as not to burn). At the same time bring to boil in large pot the remaining 4 cups of sugar and cream. As it comes to a boil add mixture to the melted sugar, in a small stream, stirring rapidly over low heat so as not to boil over. Continue cooking until it forms a firm ball in a glass of cool water. Take off the stove and add soda, stirring vigorously. Then add butter and stir until butter melts. Add vanilla and set aside, let cool for 20 minutes. Then beat until pretty firm. Add nuts and pour up into a greased pan. Cut and store in an airtight container (you can work it with your hands if it does not set up).
