1 c butter
3 T granulated sugar
1 t almond extract
2 c flour
1/2 t salt
1 c confectioner's sugar
2 T cocoa powder
2 T hot water
1/2 t vanilla
almond slices (if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and granulated sugar. Add the almond extract, flour and salt. Roll level tablespoon of mixture into balls. Place on greased cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes.

Make icing - combine confectioner's sugar, cocoa powder, hot water and vanilla. Put 1/2 teaspoon on each cookie while still warm (not hot!). If desired, place almond slice in center.

Note - these were (and still are) a Therrien favorite during the holidays. I have never had them with the almond slice on top. They don't need it - they are so good without it.
