1 1/2 cups sifted flour
2/3 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, well beaten

Crumb Topping:
3 tbsp butter or margarine
7 tbsp flour, sifted
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon

Measure and sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add shortening. Cut shortening into flour with fingers until mixture is consistency of coarse corn meal. Combine and add milk and egg. Stir quickly just enough to make a soft but not sticky dough. Pour into well-greased pan (8 x 8") and spread evenly.

Stir butter or margarine until soft. Add sifted flour, sugar and cinnamon. Blend mixture with fork until it forms coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over cake. Bake in hot oven (400) for 40 minutes.
