2 cups 100% bran
2 cups white sugar - 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 cups boiling water
4 eggs unbeaten
1quart buttermilk
1 tesp salt

5 cups flour sifted with soda
5 teas soda
4 cups "all bran"

Mix in electric mixer - put bran, sugar and shortening in large (very) bowl, put in boiling water and blend in mixer, cool slightly, add eggs (one at a time). Beat 1 minute after each addition at high speed. Add buttermilk and salt and blend on low speed.
Part 2:
Mix 5 cups sifted flour and 5 teaspoons soda (sift flour and soda together) and 4 cups "all bran" Add to first part and stir until well blended.
Variation: Add 2 cups raisins or blue berries if desired. Makes more than a gallon. Keep refrigerated. Grease muffin tins (use cups if desired). Bake at 400 degrees about 20 minutes. Use as needed.
You can bake all at one time, putting 6-8 muffins in a plastic bag and freeze. They are delicious. Just warm up in your bread warmer at low heat or put in the microwave.
