"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Mix butter, sugar and egg together thoroughly. Stir in flavoring. Sift flour and baking powder together and stir in. Chill dough. Roll very thin (1/16"). Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Press blanched almond or pecan half into top of each cookie. If glazed cookie is desired, brush mixture of 1 egg yolk and 2 tbsp water over top of cookies before baking. Bake until delicately browned, at 425 for 5 - 7 minutes. Makes 7 dozen 2" cookies.
COOKIES FOR PARTIES: Follow above recipe, cut and decorate as follows:
HEART COOKIES: Cut with heart shaped cutter. Brush lightly with a little beaten egg white, then sprinkle with red sugar. Bake. Cut round cookies, place a tiny red candy heart in center of each. Bake.
