1 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 1-oz blocks unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup milk
Granulated sugar for tops

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together. In mixing bowl work shortening until creamy. Stir in sugar, gradually, then beat until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time; beat thoroughly. Stir in melted chocolate and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Drop by tablespoon 2" apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 10 - 15 minutes or until firm to touch. Remove from oven and sprinkle tops with sugar while still hot. Makes 2 dozen.
