Ingredients:  
2 1/2 cups milk (I use 2 cups whole milk and 1/2 cup cream)
1 cup sugar
4 T cornstarch (use 5 T for cocoa pie)
3 egg yolks
1 t vanilla
2 T butter
1/4 t salt

Variations:
Add 3 T cocoa for chocolate
Add 1 can coconut for coconut

Topping: 3 egg whites
6 T sugar
1 t vanilla

Filling:
Combine sugar, salt and cornstarch. Heat milk and add to dry ingredients and beaten egg yolks. Add vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until custard is thick. Cool. Pour into cooked pie shell. Spread whipped egg whites and bake until brown.

Topping:
Beat until stiff and spread over top of custard. Bake 5-10 minutes until brown.
