1/2 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar and egg together thoroughly. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Sift flour, soda and salt together and stir in. Chill dough. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2" apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with mixture of sugar and cinnamon (1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon) Bake until set but not brown. 400, 8 - 10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
