21/4 c flour, divided
1/4 c water
Pinch salt
1 c shortening
1/2 c maple syrup, divided
3 lbs (8-9) apples, peeled and thinly sliced
11/4 c sugar
1/4 c lemon juice
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1 c flour
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c butter or margarine
1 c chopped pecans

Heat oven to 350
In a small bowl, combine 1/4 c flour and water til smooth.
In a large bowl, combine salt and remaining flour; cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Add remaining flour and knead gently until dough forms a ball.
Press dough into bottom and sides of 15x10 jelly roll pan. Spread 1/4 c syrup over dough then arrange apples on top.
Combine remaining filling ingredients and syrup, then drizzle over apples.
For topping, combine flour and sugar in bowl and cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle over filling. Bake 1 hour or until apples are tender
