1 lb dried pinto beans
1/2 lb bacon, sliced into 3" pieces
1 tsp salt
2-3 cloves garlic, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Sort and rinse dried beans. Place in large 4-5 qt pot. Add water to about 2" from top of pot. Add remaining ingredients. Bring wat to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer until tender (about 4-6 hours), stirring occasionally. Add additional hot water if necessary to keep level at least an inch above beans. When beans are cooked, add small amount of oil to a cast iron skillet on medium heat. Add beans along with bean juice a little bit at a time, mashing with a potato masher.

This makes quite a lot of refried beans. You might want to half the recipe.
This goes great with tacos or arroz con pollo.
