1 cup. butter at room temp.
1/2 cup. vegetable shortening (crisco)
3 cups. sugar
5 eggs, large, at room temp.
3 cups. all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup. milk
1 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350

Grease tube pan with shortening and line bottom and sides with waxed paper.

Combine butter and shortening and beat at high speed to mix well. Add sugar and continue beating until fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Reduce mixer speed to medium and add eggs one at a time.

Sift flour with baking powder. Add to batter alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour while mixer is running on low-medium speed.
Add vanilla and mix well.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, then turn oven to 325 and continue baking. Check after a total of 1 hour 30 minutes to see if cake tester comes out clean. If so, cake is done. If not, cook a little longer.

For chocolate pound cake, replace 2 T. flour with 4 1/2 to 6 T. Hershey's cocoa and cook as above.
