"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Aunt Ruthie's Chili Sauce, by Barb Ross, is from The Soup Sisters and Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
24 tomatoes 5 onions 1 c. sugar 2 T. salt 2 c. vinegar 3 green peppers 1 T. cinnamon 1 T. cloves 1 T. allspice
Combine ingredients and boil for 3 hours. Cool and put in jars.
My aunt had a wonderful garden in Hartland, WI and would grow her own vegetables. She used to do catering on the side. Every year she would make her famous chili sauce and can them. She would give her jars of sauce for presents or use them in her catering business. You could even add some hot peppers or chilis to spice this up a bit.
