Cake:
3/4 cup butter or margarine
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
4 whole eggs
1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 1/4 cups self-rising flour

Frosting:

1 cup Pet milk
2 cups granulated sugar

Cake:
Cream the butter & sugar; add the eggs (1 at a time) mix well.
Add the bananas and vanilla. Mix well after each addition.
Mix the baking soda and buttermilk in a separate container.
Let this stand a few minutes then add it to the banana mixture and incorporate.
Add the flour and milk alternately; mix just enough to blend, do not over mix.
Grease (3) 9 inch pans; pour the cake batter evenly into all 3 pans.
Bake them in a preheated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes.
Remove the cakes from the pans and let them cool by placing them onto cooling racks.

Frosting:
Combine the Pet milk and sugar in a saucepan. Cook to a soft ball stage. Stir till it starts to harden, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Ice the cake immediately.
