3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sucanat or brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
for later, sucanat or white sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Cream shortening, sucanat, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients, except sucanat or sugar. Shape dough into rounded tspfuls into balls. Dip tops into sucanat or sugar. Place balls on a cookie sheet and bake 10 or 12 minutes. Cool on rack. Enjoy.

This is one of our favorite cookies. They hold up shape well and you can double the ginger to give for people who are sick or nauseaus. They are a soft cookie.
