1/2 cup butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 egg 1/4 cup milk 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 3 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder added to 1 cup of the above flour
Cream butter, sugar and salt. Sift flour and baking powder. Add 1 cup of flour with baking powder to butter mixture. Add remaining flour, as much as needed depending on dough. Shape into a disc; cover with plastic. Chill for 2 hours. Roll out on lightly floured surface about 1/8 - 1/4-inch thick. Grease cookie sheets. Cut out dough into desired shapes. Bake in 350 degree oven 8 - 10 minutes until lightly browned. Cool. Shortcut: Add 2 - 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour to refrigerted cookie dough and proceed as above. May frost with Royal Icing (see recipe).
