1/2 c shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. grated lemon rind
3/4 c sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c milk
1/4 c finely chopped nuts

Topping:
1/2 c confectioners sugar
1/2 c lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
Combine shortening, salt and lemon rind. Add sugar gradually and cream well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour and baking powder. Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition. Stir in nuts. Place in greased loaf pan 9 x 5 x 3 inches. Bake in 350 oven for 1 hour. Remove from pan immediately and spoon topping over cake.

Topping:
combine sugar and lemon juice. Spoon over loaf as soon as it is removed from pan.
