Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup Shortening (I used butter flavored Crisco)
1 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Dark or "sulphered" molasses (I never could find sulphered (only unsulphered), so I just used a dark molasses)
1 egg (I might have put in two)
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground Cloves
1/2 tsp. ground Ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add the molasses and the egg, beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and mix into batter. Roll into 1 inch balls. Roll balls in sugar and place on cookie sheet in balls. Bake 375 degrees. 8-10 minutes.

They shouldn't grow as big as mine did. They should be about 2-3 inches in diameter and be moist and chewy.
