1 pkg dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar
5 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup crisco or 1 cup cold butter
2 cups buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Mix yeast with water and 1/2 of sugar. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and soda. Cut in shortening or butter. Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture. On a floured surface pat dough into 1 inch thickness and cut into 2 1/2 inch biscuits. Bake for 10 minutes.
