1 CUP RAISINS
1 CUP WATER
3/4 CUP SHORTENING
1 CUPS SUGAR
2 EGGS
1 TEASPOON VANILLA
2 CUPS FLOUR
1 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
1 TEASPOON SALT
1 TEASPOON CINNAMON
TEASPOON CLOVES
TEASPOON BAKING POWDER
2 CUPS QUAKER OATS
CUP CHOPPED NUTS, OPTIONAL

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer raisins in water for 10 minutes.
Drain raisins and reserve liquid. Add water if necessary to make cup.
Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Stir in cup raisin liquid and dry ingredients.
Stir in raisins and nuts.
Drop by tablespoon, 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes until brown.
