1 Cup Shortening
2 Cups Water, boiling
2 Tsp. Salt
2 Cups Sugar
4 Eggs, beaten
6 Cups All Bran Cereal
1-1/2 Cups Raisins or Dates, optional
5 Tsp. Baking Soda combined with 1 Qt. Buttermilk
5 Cups Flour
4 Tsp. Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over shortening. Add the remaining ingredients. Mix well. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator. Bake at 400 for 12 to 14 minutes. Batter may be kept in refrigerator for up to 6 weeks and used as needed. Note: For better flavor let set for a few hours before baking the first batch.
