1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2-1/2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
8 T cocoa
2 eggs
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs.
Mix flour, soda and cocoa together, add alternately with buttermilk. Mix well, add hot water last. (Mixture will be very thin) Pour into 3 - 9" cake pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350 until sides shrink from pan. About 20-30 min.

You must frost this cake with the "Birthday Cake" frosting recipe that is included.
